MODESTO, Calif. — Sutter Health leaders have announced Eugene “Gino” Patrizio as the new chief executive officer of Memorial Medical Center (MMC), a 423-bed Modesto hospital that has long been an integral part of the Sutter Health network. Patrizio began his new role July 30.

“Gino is a dynamic leader with a distinguished healthcare career who has long been an advocate for patient care excellence,” said Grant Davies, President and CEO of Sutter Health’s Valley Area Hospitals. “He is a thoughtful leader who understands the value that our integrated health care delivery system brings to patients in the Northern California communities we serve. We are excited to have him at Memorial.”

Patrizio began his career as a health care attorney for 10 years in the San Diego area. He specialized in professional liability, medical board and employment law cases. In 1996, he began his administrative career with Health Management Associates in Florida, a system of 60 hospitals, where he quickly gained increasing responsibility. He was the chief operating officer of a 128-bed, full service acute facility just prior to his move to Universal Health Services in 2010 where he was COO and then CEO at Inland Valley Medical Center, a Level-2 trauma center in Southern California.

In 2015, Patrizio became CEO of Fremont Rideout Health Group in Yuba City, where he successfully managed the 497-bed medical center and the 40-physician medical foundation. He managed a team of more than 2,000 employees and oversaw the construction of a new hospital and an affiliation agreement with the Adventist Health system.

“Throughout his career, he has developed a reputation for growing clinical programs in partnership with physician colleagues,” said Davies.

Patrizio holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, a juris doctorate from the University of San Diego, and a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.

Patrizio takes over for interim MMC CEO Linda Horn, who led the hospital for four months after the departure of Daryn Kumar earlier this year.
