Sutter Health Earns Prominent HIMSS Revalidation Achievement

Posted on May 3, 2018 in Quality

SACRAMENTO, Calif.– Sutter Health earned EMRAM and O-EMRAM Stage 7 revalidation honors from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), an industry authority in health care information technology.  Only 6.7 percent of U.S. hospitals and 10.7 percent of outpatient facilities have reached this designation.

Attaining a Stage 7 healthcare system designation represents a near paperless environment with technology that supports optimized patient care. The not-for-profit network previously earned the prestigious Stage 7 award by HIMSS in 2015.

“Sutter Health’s provider network delivers clinical care to approximately one percent of the U.S. population and data interoperability is a critical attribute of our clinical integration model,” said Jon Manis, Sutter Health Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “Foundational to our quality, safety and care coordination initiatives, we continuously strive to deliver value from our investments in data interoperability on behalf of the patients, providers and community we serve. While much work remains to be done, I am proud of the groundbreaking efforts of the collective teams within our Information Services department and our clinical and operational partners.”

HIMSS Analytics recognized Sutter’s revalidation efforts in an article posted this week to their website: Cross-Collaborating to Strengthen External Relationships and Achieve Interoperability.

About EMRAM: The HIMSS Analytics Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) incorporates methodology and algorithms to automatically score hospitals around the world relative to their Electronic Medical Records (EMR) capabilities. This eight-stage (0-7) model measures the adoption and utilization of electronic medical record (EMR) functions.

About O-EMRAM: The HIMSS Analytics Outpatient Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (O-EMRAM) incorporates methodology and algorithms to score clinics on the maturity of their EMR environments. This eight-stage (0-7) model is intended for clinics where there is an encounter between a caregiver and a patient, and the caregiver is licensed to assess, diagnose, treat, prescribe and generate orders and documentation. The O-EMRAM tests for clinician documentation, including orders, e-prescribing patient engagement and population health analytics.
