MODESTO, Calif. – Over 100 teams braved the elements at Modesto’s Del Rio Golf and Country Club on Monday, April 16th to assist in the fundraising efforts for Memorial Medical Center’s support services programs.

The 16th Annual Memorial Hospital Foundation Golf Classic is a popular event in the Modesto community. Business leaders and community members mark their calendars each April to enjoy a day of golf, camaraderie, dining and auction activities, all in support of community health care.

Members of the complementary therapies Art program display their original works, to be auctioned off at the golf tournament. L-R, Zina Hopson, Charlie Lockett and Ida Cremers, with Art group facilitator Galen Martin.

Memorial Hospital Foundation was created in 1975 to accept private gifts from the community to support Memorial Medical Center. Since its founding, the Foundation has received more than $18 million to support healthcare services that meet the needs of the local community.

This year’s funds raised will help Memorial Medical Center’s support services programs, including:

  • Cancer complementary therapies programs: These programs aim to help patients and their caregivers manage cancer symptoms while improving their quality of life and reducing fear, pain, depression and anxiety. The programs include healing classes in art, photography, writing, gardening, music, strength and fitness, cycling and walking and running groups. They are open to cancer survivors and their caregivers and supporters.
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation program: Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death, accounting for nearly one in three deaths in the U.S. MMC’s medically-supervised program provides support for patients through education, exercise training, and counseling.
  • Pulmonary Independence Program: This program provides comprehensive outpatient care and support to those with chronic lung disease, enabling them to improve the quality of their lives and have the highest possible functional capacity.
