Sutter Health Further Evolves Senior Leadership Structure

Longtime leaders take on roles of Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Strategic Services; Greater Emphasis on Mental Health and Population Health

Not-for-profit Sutter Health today announced updates to its senior leadership team. James Conforti, who currently serves as President of Sutter Health’s Valley Area Operating Unit, will become the organization’s Chief Operating Officer. Jeff Gerard, currently President of Sutter Health’s Bay Area Operating Unit has been named Senior Vice President (SVP) of Strategic Services. Conforti and Gerard will assume their new roles on June 1, and their previous positions will be eliminated. Additionally, Rishi Sikka, M.D., President of System Enterprises, will expand his role to help Sutter Health further increase its focus on mental health and population health services.

“It’s a dynamic and exciting time to be in healthcare and these updates to my senior leadership team are part of our continual process to evolve the care we provide to meet our patients’ expectations,” said Sarah Krevans, Sutter Health President and CEO. “We want to better enable collaboration, innovation and technology, and align our clinical services to deliver high-quality, personalized, and affordable care.

In 2014, Sutter implemented an innovative patient-centric reorganization of its system structure, elevating physician and nurse leaders to new senior-level roles and placing increased focus on improving the patient experience across its network of physician organizations, hospitals and home health operations.

James Conforti, Sutter Health Chief Operating OfficerChief Operating Officer:  As COO, James Conforti will oversee operations across Sutter Health and help facilitate quicker and more collaborative decision-making, as well as effective implementation of best practices throughout the organization.

The role of COO was not filled after Sarah Krevans vacated the position in 2016 to allow time for further assessment of the organization’s needs and focus areas.

 

Jeff Gerard, Sutter Health Senior Vice President of Strategic ServicesSenior Vice President of Strategic Services: Sutter Health has a goal to transform healthcare to best meet the needs of the people and communities it’s privileged to serve. To do this will require new partnerships and ways of organizing teams. As SVP of Strategic Services, Jeff Gerard will be responsible for bringing together key teams in new ways across Sutter Health so that the network advances the value it brings to patients and communities.

 

Rishi Sikka M.D., Sutter Health President of System EnterprisesPresident, System Enterprises: To further ensure Sutter Health provides optimal care coordination across all care settings at all stages of patients’ lives, the organization has placed a greater emphasis on population health management and mental health services. Rishi Sikka, M.D will oversee the development of a new service called Sutter Population Health Services as a part of his current position. This evolution will bring Sutter’s existing population health management efforts together under one umbrella, providing the focus and resources to further develop Sutter’s population health capabilities across the network. Sutter Health’s systemwide mental health services also will align with System Enterprises.
