NOVATO, Calif. — Sutter Health today announced a $10,000 donation to SF Marin Food Bank and reaffirmed its commitment to donating extra food from the Novato Community Hospital cafeteria to ExtraFood.org. Together these pledges help local residents receive healthy meals or bags of groceries.

“We’re in the process of turning this $10,000 donation into $50,000 worth of food to nourish thousands of individuals, families, seniors, and people with disabilities” said Paul Ash, Executive Director of the SF-Marin Food Bank. “We thank Sutter Health for stepping up and helping to make our community a little healthier and stronger, especially this time of year.”

“Partners like Novato Community Hospital help us serve children, adults, and families in Marin through our county-wide food recovery program. Every month ExtraFood.org reaches more than 6,000 vulnerable people with deliveries of healthy, fresh food and the hospital’s thrice-weekly prepared food donations meet a critically important need for proteins” said Marv Zauderer, Executive Director of ExtraFood.org.

“One in five people in Marin County are food insecure” said Sherie Hickman, Administrator, Novato Community Hospital. “My staff and I are proud to work for a not-for-profit organization that focuses on the well-being of people. Our partnership with Marin Food Bank and ExtraFood.org make a difference in the lives of those who need it most and helps us put our mission into action.”
