Gifts to Provide Resources for Lodging and Wellness Needs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –The not-for-profit Sutter Health network today donated a total of $50,000 to Fisher House Foundation and the Veterans Resource Centers of America —two military-support organizations dedicated to improving the lives of veterans and their families in Northern California.

“We are grateful for the selfless service and sacrifices made by our nation’s veterans,” said Sarah Krevans, president and CEO of Sutter Health. “At Sutter, we’re especially proud of the nearly 1,400 veterans who enrich our organization with the experience and skills they gained during their military service. It is our privilege to count them as partners who help us deliver exceptional health care to our patients and families.”

About the Donations
Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. These homes are located at major military and VA medical centers nationwide, and in Europe, close to the medical center or hospital they serve. Sutter Health’s $25,000 donation will help four families stay for free for one full year at one of the Fisher House facilities in Sacramento, Palo Alto and Hawaii. This donation will also support the purchase of vital supplies such as food and personal care items for families staying in the facilities.

The Veterans Resource Centers of America provide critical support services to veterans throughout Northern California, Nevada and Arizona. Services include homeless prevention and rapid re-housing, employment and training, transitional and permanent supportive housing, behavioral health treatment, case management and nutrition services. Sutter Health’s $25,000 donation will help bridge the gap for veterans and their families who are awaiting formal Veteran’s Administration (VA) approval for services or who do not meet specific grant stipulations by providing money for temporary housing assistance, emergency food supplies, medical supplies such as wheel chairs, transportation, day care and moving expenses.

Sutter’s Ongoing Commitment to Veterans
Sutter Health greatly values the contributions military veterans provide—to the United States as well as to its network. Sutter recently launched a Military and Veterans Inclusion Resource Group to support members of the military, veterans and their friends and family. Sutter Health partners with the Employment Development Department to promote jobs for military members seeking employment. Additionally, the health care organization’s military recruitment efforts include participation in military career fairs and posting to online military job boards. Sutter Health also teamed up with Veteran Jobs Mission, a national organization committed to employing and mentoring veterans.
